Our Day

Our Yowie Bay centre opens at 7.30am where families and the children are greeted with a smile by our friendly welcoming educators.

Families will drop their children to their rooms and play outdoors with their peers until about 10am. Outdoors children are supported to participate in learning fundamental movements skills, sandpit play or joining in quieter more solitary activities. Children can revisit games and activities from their last day of care at kindy when the same experiences are set up.

Our day at Kid’n Around

We welcome children from 7:30 am in the morning and dive into small construction, craft and intentional teaching experiences throughout the morning until our 9:30am group time. The morning is where the children engage with our learning tables coinciding with the services Intentional teaching calendar. This focuses on teaching the children the letters in the Alphabet and numbers through a variety of experiences.

In our morning group time we sing our good morning song, Acknowledgement of country, Dharawal song and encourage the children to share their news or share something special with their friends allowing us educators to know more about the children. After morning group time, the children transition outside for progressive morning tea.

The older children transition indoors for preschool readiness activities while the younger children remain outdoors for age appropriate learning. The older children engage in activities promoting their school readiness skills ensuring a smooth and confident transition into formal schooling. These activities are thoughtfully designed to foster foundational competencies across key developmental domains. Meanwhile, the younger children remain immersed in outdoor environments that nurture sensory exploration, imaginative play, and foundational social interactions—laying the groundwork for future readiness in a developmentally attuned way.

At midday, the learning environment transitions to support the evolving needs of each age group. The older children move outdoors, continuing their school readiness journey through intentional experiences that foster independence, collaboration, and reflective thinking. During this time, they either engage in structured social games that promote turn-taking, problem-solving, and emotional regulation, or contribute to their individual learning journals—drawing from the intentional teaching calendar to reflect on recent experiences and deepen their understanding.

Simultaneously, the younger children transition indoors for a quieter, educator-led Midday Group Time focused on language enrichment and social development. Through storytelling, singing, and interactive dialogue, they build foundational communication skills and strengthen their sense of belonging within the group. These midday routines are carefully designed to honour each child’s developmental stage, ensuring that both age groups are supported in ways that nurture agency, emotional wellbeing, and confident participation in learning.

The children then have their lunch and engage in rest time where we offer children who need it a sleep and meditation time for those who do not need to sleep. We then engage in quiet activities keeping our bodies calm.

For our afternoon group time an educator will read a story or engage the children in a circle game before heading outdoors for afternoon tea.

The children then have a run around outdoors using big body movements before heading inside engaging with the learning tables for the rest of the afternoon until 5:30pm when we close.
